A slightly different take to sandblasting.

How about stripping down with something like this:

Then something like one of these to prep & convert any rust:

https://aquasteel.co.uk/

https://www.bilthamber.com/paints-an...ngs/hydrate-80

Then coat with the finish of your choice.
