It wasnt always this way with me but have been too trusting i think at times and now just wanna see if i can get the balance right.

I hope you will not mind me saying so, but your post highlights the problem. We as consumers also have to make the effort to build mutual trust and respect with our chosen garage.

I have been using my local independent for around 25 years and have never had any cause to complain or be concerned. I don't even ask them for an estimate and usually just drop the car with a list of items the last of which is always 'anything else that you feel should be done'. They have always carried out work to my satisfaction and I have always treated them with respect. They know for example that I would never blame them if a rusty bolt on my 23 year old Omega was to snap. A lot of people would.

I have the same relationship with the local lawn machinery shop that I have now used for nearly 25 years.

Being owners of a Jaguar XF as of Appril 2021, I wanted to choose a Jaguar specialist to look after the car. So I made the effort to phone a well known Jag specialist some 25 miles away and ask if I could pop over for a general chat one day. The response was that they were fully booked but would make the tme for a chat. Myself and the wife - whose car it is - went over this Tuesday and following the chat booked up a stack of mid-life maintenance items.

I never seem to have problems with poor service!
