Hi Mat.
Use a 3mm drill and drill down the nut, a couple of time if you do not have a dremel, the nut as most likely been tightened down onto the shoulder of the cable.
try not to damage thread, i believe you may have the console out at the moment ? if so it will be easier for you, cutting through the nut is a better option than replacing the cable.
