You could have excessive pressure in the crankcase.

Have you checked your PCV filter?
This is often overlooked because it was missed off the maintenance schedule for the M47R engine.

When I first got my diesel, I did a service on it. Items such as the air filter, pollen filter were quite clean. However the PCV filter was totally clogged up.
I doubt that it had ever been changed!
