The left grommet in this photo, and the blue connector the black one is for the brake wear sensor which will also need to be removed if you are taking the strut off the car completely.

Hi all! Ive left the ABS sensor in place! Having now got the front strut off, and in turn, the broken spring, new one ready to go - can i ask is there a test or obvious signs of an expired damper? it is physically difficult to move by hand, but im not sure of the force needed to do this. Also it is fairly well tight and compressed (spring off) and i would have thought it would have been extended under its own force?
Any guidance will be appreciated. thanks in advance.
