Just gave the plenum a check and it's dry as a bone in there really. There's quite a lot of mouldy leaves which were damp and could hold moisture right by the ECU, so that could have caused the problem, but there was no water in there.

Only issue that I've had similar to this was getting back in my car the other week down the supermarket and all the dials were dead.
Got home and after advice on here did the old battery disconnect for 20 minutes coneccted back up and they all came back on and have been fine ever since.
