The old Rover is a whole lot more brisk than it once was, I suspect that slack in the accelerator linkage was the culprit.
So time now for another question, this time concerning torque convertor lock up which doesn't happen until IRO 65 mph which seems a little fast to me.
Talking to various folk, I am led to believe that it should lock up nearer to 50 mph. Is it possible to 'reset' the gearbox like the Jaaaag, where one would just disconnect the battery for 20 minutes or so, or is it more involved than that, or impossible?
