Hi John,
If you're satisfied that the noise
is the air conditioning (i.e. it doesn't happen in 'Econ' mode) then start by checking that your low speed fan works by performing the "demist test".
If the fan doesn't work on low speed then we'll need to know whether you have a 3 speed or 2 speed (with resistor) system in order to advise on parts.
If the fan does work, call out a mobile air conditioning specialist to check the condition of your condenser and your refrigerant gas charge. If all's well there, suspect a the early stages of a failing crankshaft pulley (specific to the diesel).
