The one-piece pipe went in relatively easily from underneath the car - get the RH end out through the hole first then the rest and be manoeuvred into place. Mind you, I wouldn't like to try it if the subframe, gearbox and steering rack were on the car.
You suggested starting with 140cm length of pipe. I measured my old mangled one using a piece of string and decided to go up to 160cm. I cut three 160cm lengths, (expecting I'd mess up the first two attempts!). If I had to do it again I'd go up to 180cm.
Your Chinese mini pipe bender (I got the Laser version for £10.19) proved to be a fantastic bit of kit and I ended up using it to do
all the shaping work. In fact the other two pipe benders I'd collected were redundant.
So all that's really needed are the £39 flaring tool, the £10 pipe bender, a mini pipe cutter, 25ft of pipe and some fittings.
