When I did mine last year the pig tails looked really crabby (see attached photo), although the rest of the spring looked good. I decided to put new ones on. However, when I stripped the front struts to change the top bearings, while the spring pig tails were a bit corroded, they were not bad. So I cleaned them up and put some hammerite on them to protect them. If the originals look OK, it might be worth staying with them. I'm sure the steels used in the original springs are probably of better quality than many of the ones on the market today.
