The other side of the coin is that if someone refuses to pay their bill there are only two options which are just from the perspective of the suppliers and the customers who pay regularly and on time - change the payment method to pre-pay or cut off the electricity.
Food is an essential commodity but no one expects the supermarkets to supply food to non-paying members of the public. Why would anyone expect it from energy retail companies?
