In my experience, the hit-it type punch and the press-it type punch are equally accurate - but it all depends if drilling accuracy is vital. For rough work, I always use the hit-it punch. For accuracy, the positioning of the point is obviously the first important thing, but holding it there is equally so. The short time between positioning and punching is when things go off-centre, especially with hit-it. You're thinking about the hammer and not the point. Your eye is on the top end. I keep my autopunch tip very sharp and pointy so you can clearly see where you're putting it onto the surface. I press it slightly and sharp point actually keys itself into the metal to help stay on target. I also use two hands, one for holding on target and the other for pressing the activator. But my eye is always on the point
