I started taking Simvastatin back in 2005 following a heart attack. I stuck with it for about 10 years, eventually suffering from cramps (especially in the calf muscles, whilst you were asleep - ouch), weird dreams (no - not that type!) and constant awakening during the night. About 4 years ago, I was switched to Atorvastatin and most of the side effects have now disappeared. I put some of the improvement down to being able to take the Atorvastatin in the morning now, whereas the Simvastatin was specified as "take in the evening" - but there seems to be no medical grounds for that to have any effect.
I do have Type 2 Diabetes as well - but that is controlled by diet only.
