Default CDT Gold Resistors?

For a few years we've used the term 'gold resistor' to describe the desirable higher performance resistor for the CDT fan.

Members need to exercise caution as these days there are a lot of very poor gold anodised resistors available on certain auction sites.

The durable resistor is a 0.47ohm (R47) 100W resistor such as the Arcol HS100 here

The photograph below shows from left to right the MGR OEM resistor, the Arcol 100W resistor and the claimed 100W .47ohm resistor from the aforementioned site. Personally, I doubt the last one would dissipate more than 25W for any period of time before expiring. It is about half the weight of the MGR resistor.

Recommendation: if you wish to improve on the OEM resistor, buy one from a known forum trader or get the Arcol providing you have the facility to solder it yourself to thick wires.
