I've got a spare rear sub-frame, that's just rusting away on a pallet outside - I don't have a shed, so it's parked at my nephew's house. Reading about rust-proofing got me thinking - maybe I should electrolytically reverse the rust, then paint it with, as you suggest, a zinc coating to sacrificially protect the base metal. Then store it somewhere dry until needed. Which one day it will for sure!
But...sounds like a lot of work, and I'm a lazy NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-!
