There are a number of different MOT Test lanes used currently, some are two man test lanes where all the component testing is performed manually.
ATL is a one man test lane as is an OPTL and will incorporate "Shaker Plates"
These are usually pneumatic operated plates controlled by the tester to check movements in suspension joints rubbers as well as steering, these are quite powerful items and are operated to generate a level of twist in the car allowing both front and rear suspension/steering checks under a pre-determined level. It is funny seeing a car twitching the way they do on the ramp !
