Check the handbrake shoe hold down pins haven't pulled through by looking from behind the back plates (you should be able to see the ends of the pins if they are in position, or a hole if displaced) - a small mirror will help here unless you own a boroscope.
If the pins have pulled out the shoes will sit at an angle and bind.
Hopefully that won't be the case, but it is worth checking.
