Default CDT Tank Mounted Fuel Pump Replacement

The Haynes Manual is not too clear suggesting that the Rover instructions are not possible to follow due to the impossibility to remove the unit from the tank without disconnecting fuel lines inside the tank first.
Has anyone any advice please - have I missed a previous posting on this challenge as mine has to be changed.
Thanks for advice as my car sits on my drive until I fix it.

Very many thanks Big Blue - I don't know how you found this very comprehensive information but much appreciated. I will need to spend some time reading it through before I decide on taking the challenge.

Are there more 'How Tos' to update this recommendation which is good but I would like a more recent report if possible?
Thanks - I have a pump but fitting does look like a real challenge!
