maybe back in the fold
Well gents, i maybe back to haunt everyone again with questions
re 75s. Now im retired, looking for a project, came across a “red” 75 auto very cheap 2001 , has 240,000km on it but am told the engine runs very smoothly but it has a auto gear issue. The owner reckons third gear” just revs and dosnt go into fourth” The car still has reverse gear. From my days of having 3 or 4 Rover 75s i recollect they had issues with the gear selector actuator. Would that cause this sort of issue?? |

Well Peter, it would be great to have you back, and interesting to follow the information and comments that this creates, good luck.

Peter,
Here's a current thread about loss of third gear. It was found to be a damaged 'O' ring deep in the gearbox. Simon

Read the post, interesting . An O ring deep in the Jatco box does not sound appealing or easy to sort out.
I have a couple of choices, atm there is a 2002 connie 2.5 in dover white with a blown head gasket (but will need to tilt tray it 500km) but the auto is fine or a the red one with a working motor but knackered auto. Both going for peanuts, alway wanted a dover white one but an engine exchange could also be expensive as well. Very few 75s left around over here in Australia but on the bright side due to the climate , no rust issues on the bodies on any of them at all. |

The issue is. the white one is about 500km away and ive just found its a club spec bot a connie.I could up spec the seats to electric and put reverse sensors in without to much problem. Getting some more pics of the interior Im thinking ill need to go have a look at it first, Kalgoorlie is a gold mining town out east of us in Perth and ill need to get it transported if i decide to do this project. |

Can you get another auto box, and just change boxes? either car needs work, it's a case of what is easier, having an auto box overhauled is hardly DIY, but so would be possibly having to have the block and head skimmed if the head gasket went due to overheating, and warped the block,
