Fish and chips used to be a cheap option, not any more.

Watching those folks going out on the North Sea in all weathers makes you appreciate the price. Not forgetting the farmers, tending those spuds. Then there's the skills of the filleters, chippers and fryers. I remember my great grandad telling stories of the General Strike and folks sitting on the harbour wall with a line, desperate to feed the family!

The ones that get me are the Bearing Sea crab fishermen/women as featured in "The Deadliest Catch". North Sea fishing is bad enough but no way in hell I'd even contemplate that as a job.

So, I'm guessing the Harbour Lights charging £19.95 also including mushy peas, a nice plate with a knife and fork and a view isn't so steep after all. As long as they are good of course.

Eating out is not something you could afford to do all the time these days!
Fish n chips for four at £100, no thank you

Brunch today was £10, a little treat, I didn’t eat the bacon as it was a tad burnt.

I've finished dinner this evening but....

I'm now hungry again .

I'm a huge fish fan but as has been said, it ain't cheap any more. I am old enough to remember when a "six penny worth" of chips would easily feed a few folks. And "fish and chips" was a cheap meal.

I guess back then we had a fishing industry and our own waters - richly stocked.

No longer.

And on a different tack I think that the Italians just like to put "passion" into everything regardless of if that's logical, sensible, wanted or in any way a good idea. .

Great to admire - hopeless to own
