The aftermarket springs that Rimmers were listing were suplex and they said they weren’t available! I’ve gone for the Quinton Hazell as a known make and hope they last more than a couple of years and they were cheaper than rimmers were charging for the suplex by about £11.00

Well the new springs have arrived and it's nice to see a quinton Hazell box after quite a few years. From ordering to arriving from Germany took 8 days. As I'm happy with my order I've decided to order some TRW pads and discs for £89 inc postage and will crack on with fitting the lot when they arrive

Any chance you could double check the spring dimensions against my spreadsheet, and then the height to the top of the wheel arch. For future reference for others?

My wife has returned with the Connie so for comparison and what I'm hoping to achieve, I've measured the difference between the Connie se cdti auto saloon and my club se cdt manual tourer. They are both fitted with 16'' Union alloys.
Centre of the wheel to the arch on the tourer is 39 cm or 8 cm tyre to arch. Centre of the wheel to the arch on the Connie is 36 cm or 5 cm tyre to arch. The new spring out of the box is appro 390 mm with a coil thickness of 18 mm. As I've mentioned earlier, I'm awaiting a few more parts to complete the job so I will report if my quest is successful. |

After removing my struts to fit the new springs, I found the shock absorbers in a poor state at the top due to corrosion so I’ve had to order a couple of monroe shockers, new drop links from DMGRS due to slight play but I never heard any knocking. They come with a 4 year warranty but the last ones have lasted 6 years and they have done a lot of miles on our poor roads so not to bad. So tomorrow I’m going to build everything back up with top mounts , cleaned up and repainted washers, hubs, back plates and pads and discs. I’m just wondering if there is a correct way to fit the spring isolators as each side is different where it will sit in the cup if anyone knows before i fit the springs to the struts.

Well I only spilt a little bit of blood and bruised and cut a finger ,but the springs are fitted to the new struts and everything has been fitted to the car.
The front of the car is noticeably higher and the measurement from the centre of the wheel to the arch is now just under 39 cm so it now matches the tourer. I haven't road tested yet as I've painted the callipers and they need 24 hours to dry. The springs that I fitted were Quinton Hazell QCS5512 from Autodoc |

Road test done and she feels like a new car. Now to rest whilst the wounds and bruises heal.
