It seems to me that many countries are preparing for something or simply want to be ready in case of emergencies, and the idea of national pride is just empty words that might have influenced the youth in the past. I think for most young people today, the concept of national pride doesn't hold much significance, at least not until something terrible happens.

It certainly would be a tragedy to have to test it.

Scary & dangerous times indeed Phil, I hope level heads will come to the fore regarding the latest events in Ukraine & Russia. Watching what the other side are deliberating sends shivers down your spine & scares the bejesus out of me.

That video, from that source, is chilling. The phrase: ‘dropping half a ton of warhead would be nice’ from him, especially during the approach to D-Day ceremonies, is just a bit too strong.

If that is a common mind set among Russian military leaders it is probably a result of the resistance they have met in Ukraine. Russian leaders have always considered that country as one of their State Republics so they see the conflict as a legitimate challenge. Or, rather, subordinates in the hierarchy are vying for attention. There can be no winners.
