Thanks Simon, just to add to my previous, the sensor that sits centre bottom was half covered in metal filings.

Hi Steve,
It's now a matter of identifying the source of the debris. Is it fine brake band wear or coarse fragments? Have a look at the high clutch which only comes into use for 3rd gear selection. It's labelled as "reverse and high clutch assembly" which I understand you already have on the bench. Do you have the exploded diagram? Simon

Hi Simon, sorry for the delay in responding, been waiting to get gearbox back together to be sure what the fault was. the o ring on the high gear was damaged, changed all o rings put back together wednesday, test drove car ,success everything smooth, chuffed to bits, first time i've messed with a gearbox. Before taking the high gear out i could see a bit of o ring sticking out in the bottom, 1cm piece fell out, reverse gear ok. I damaged the cover plate in the early stages not paying attention, ended up buying a gearbox just for the cover, plenty of spares now. Have you ever heard of the cover being weld repaired (cracked) or would you not do it due to oil pressures. once again thanks for your time. Steve.

Was there any sign of how the 'O' ring came to be damaged? Simon

Hi Simon, o ring looked like it had been nicked with a knife, little scollop marks on the broken piece, just wondered if it were lack of lubricant along with heat. Not worked out how to put photos on here yet.Next job timing belts, that should be no fun. steve.
