Default Fence height

Does anyone know how high I can make my garden fence?

I would like to build it about 8' high.

You'll find 6 foot is the maximum, although there is no limit on hedges.

You can get round the limit, by adding trellis on the top,

I believe 6ft is correct but I used 6ft on top of a 1ft gravel board, nobody complained

You can go up to 2 metres without planning permission, unless the fence is next to the highway,in which case maximum is 1 metre without permission.

Eight foot hedging is very good intertwined with blackberry bushes.
6 Foot fences as said is Legal max, but most now add the Concrete boards (Gravel Boards?) at bottom up to 2 feet high.

Whatever is added below a 6' fence to make it higher constitutes part of the fence. However, I think that they take the height from the neighbour's land which may be higher than yours? Which means theoretically you could have a 10' fence as long as only 6' is the height above the neighbour's land.

Than there are deprivation of natural light issues....

Corin, if you take a few trips down to the bottom of your garden Et natural. You won't have to worry about it, your neighbour will have the fence up before the weekend
