MG cut out then restarted
Hi Everyone
I have a MG Zt 190 Petrol 2001 just today i came home from work started up as normal drove about 200 yds then just cut out tried restart turned over fine but didnt fire,Turned key off then on tried again and started and drove home all fine. I have checked make sure the plenums are clear after all this bad rain and its dry as a bone,Also pluged into OB2 and scanned for codes but shows no Faults logged. One thing i noticed when home when i rev it up its sounds great but just around 1000 rpm when letting throttle off there is a slight shudder from engine, When it is ticking over seems fine ? It has had a new Camshaft sensor fitted a few months ago.Any ideas what to check next ?? cheers julian

A failing crank sensor will cause a cut out and non starting (a failing cam sensor cannot cause a cut out) - i have had this issue and eventually she would not start - giveaway is the rev counter needle does not move when your turn her over. A failing crank sensor tends to fail as it warms up - but is OK again once it cools down.

As a previous poster said they fail when hot then sort themselves out as they cool, I think it's to do with the windings deteriorating in them, they were only around 25-30 quid for a Fiat so probably worth doing anyway while also checking for any damage to the phonic wheel if it's visible. |

Not on my OB scanner showed no fault code on 2 occasions - if it happens again watch the rev counter. Also I went nearly 4 weeks between non starts
