Default Vectra c 1.9cdti facelift 120bhp

Hi all

Wonder if anyone can hit the nail on the head here

Vectra 1.9cdti 120
Fiat engine 8 valve
Cuts out everyday just about and I get service light
Now ice cold weather starts then cuts out
Till engine warm
I'm thinking glow plugs ??

Pretty good with my hands on so thinking of replacing I take it there would be 4 of the similar to where a spark plug would be on petrol..

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm in sticky stuff at the moment and would definitely swap back to rover diesel if a chance arisen lol

Hi, That's the JTD engine, you can remove the glow plugs and test them, google how to. If it's the glow plugs it would be hard to start. Check vacum pipes are not leaking anywhere. The Vectra Forum is good https://www.vectra-c.com/forum/forum.php

Starts pretty much 1St time if you let glow plugs warm 5/10 seconds rev it and service light comes on and stall will do this several times while trying to get going especially now - 5 degrees c outside my house now with snow too add

Think you need to get a code reader on it, could be a host of different problems. Fuel pressure etc..

There's your problem.

But joking aside, I too would consider a glowplug issue. However I'd consider getting it diagnosed first, as it'd be an expensive waste of time if it turns out they're OK. (You'd have to do all 4 I'd imagine).

Edit - Idle air control valve? This failed on my dad's old Mk3 Mondeo, and he had similar issues.

As I say I've a Bluetooth code reader on it and checked when fault happened with service light illuminating following a stall... it came back no faults
Car is running no problem now it's hot starting fine running generally smooth. Only very rare occasion stutter coughs on accelleration

I've got the same engine albeit the 16v 150bhp in our Zafira.
I've had to change the glow plugs a couple years back. You will know they need changing as it refuses to start in cold weather.

I've also had trouble with a split hose on the turbo, which causes problems with the pressures and this makes the engine go into safe mode.
