You might be better off asking on the 260 club..

Interesting story this one(another one).
Vin no's 1-26 were pre production/development vehicles. I understand there are two cars built with a vin 005. How can that be you may ask but there were subtle differences in the sarrxx number.
I'm assuming this was a Le Mans green car allocated to a 56 plate? or is it on an 02 plate?
My understanding is that not long after MG/Rover went into administration 2 V8 cars were discovered at A E Wilcox in Wickwar. Vin 007 which was an MG but with an automatic gearbox and Vin 005 registered on a 56 plate but was a bare shell. Vin 007 was bought by Tony Bubble (user name) and a rebuild started. I think he must have bought number 5 which then changed hands to a gentleman in Southampton who set about rebuilding it(or was it your friend?). It appears 005 was a classroom vehicle which i think was probably used for the publicity pictures the engine and drivetrain possibly.
What is it that makes you think this was a Rover prototype rather than an MG?(just curious).
If you read this link it should shed some more light.
