Unhappy Service Indicator reset

Hi,

I'm sure this probably one of those things you hear about all the time, making you groan and shake your heads? However, I had my 75 diesel professionally serviced but not by a dealer. The engineer could not reset the service indicator despite trying "all the usual stuff". I found some useful advice on this forum regarding connectors, key in position 2 and creating a short circuit for a certain time period. I have tried this ad nauseum and it doesn't seem to be working. Can anyone offer me some advice on how to sort this out....maybe it takes a while to reset depending on how you drive?????

Hello Lauchie and welcome.

I take it you have read the relevant document available as a How To from the club site.

I prefer two lengths of wire rather than the paperclip, less back breaking.
Allows you to sit back and try severally.
Timing is all when doing this. Also check that the connectors within the diagnostic plug are not damaged or pushed back into the body. That would generally be the only reason for not working.

Red face Thanks

Thanks for you help & your welcome.

Presumably the result is instantaneous so you know it's been successful?

I had an Audi A4, which you had to run around in for a week until it worked out the correct interval and I take it this does not happen with a 75?

Thumbs up Success

After much fumbling around in the dark, poking, prodding and trying every concievable combination, I have finally succeeded in reseting the service indicator! I feel like rolling over and having a cigarette now and I don't even smoke! I can only imagine that my success is due to either managing to get the timing spot on, or simply making a positive connection where there wasn't one before. Thank you gentlemen for all your assistance.

Well done Lauchie

You can now regard yourself as far superior to the engineer that worked on your car, very satisfying when you DIY
