MAF sensor issues
Following a trip to see Russ and his T4, my MAF sensor was identified as unserviceable following the pre "treatment" diagnostics check. After the treatment the car was transformed, but with no working MAF. Following the fitment today of a none OEM sensor, the car is as flat as a very flat thing below 2,000 rpm, particularly in second gear.
Just got home after warming her up properly on the 40 mile trip from work, and I have decided to disconnect the MAF. My question to those more knowledgeable in these matters is the use of a none "proper" Bosch MAF the cause of the issue, or am I now experiencing the full strangling effect of a connected sensor? My fuel economy both before and after T4 was in the low forties without a working MAF. Dont reckon it will be as good with it in position as the car needs a lot more welly to take her into the useable power zone. Do I need a Bosch sensor? Should, as I am tempted, leave the thing disconnected? Your thoughts and comments would be much appreciated. Thanks, Andy |

The only MAF to fit to a diesel 75 is a pukka Bosch part, everything else is like throwing money down the drain. You can run without if you like without serious damage but the likelihood is the car will be overfuelled.

Had my 75 Tourer 'uplifted' by Phil-T4 a few weeks ago and he also found my MAF was NAFF!
Driving it after the uplift and before sorting the MAF, was an definite improvement over pre-T4 session, BUT after I had a new BOSCH MAF fitted (thanks to Arctic), the improvement in performance is simply delightful Take up in low revs is lively and mid-range torque is superb - hitting 90+ is effortless and requires lifting the gently pressed right foot much earlier than I would normally! Not keen on the idea of disconnecting the MAF, but some do - but the 'real thing' works fine for me! |

Hi, if it is any help, the correct Bosch MAF Insert has this number stamped on it:-
F00C 2G2 029 This part is all that is required and is held in place by security screws. As regards leaving it disconnected, the ECU gives an average value for fueling and is therefore never quite correct. I think if Rover could have done without fitting one they would have, and saved on build costs. Pete,

Bosch do NOT sell the insert on it's own, even though most people only fit the insert to their old housing. Beware of companies offering the inserts at knockdown prices, these will be fakes. Expect to pay £157 in the UK or £15-20 less from Germany if you can wait a couple of weeks. |

Thanks gents.
I have disconnected the offending sensor and will have to save up for the genuine Bosch item methinks. I wonder how many other users have succumbed to the cheap route as I have, only to realise that they have indeed just chucked away £30? Andy |

I’m totally confused on this one – I fitted a genuine Bosch sensor 3 years ago (sensor only, not the whole MAF) and was told it would overfuel etc… but when Phil tested everything with his T4 before doing the re-map, he said it looked good to him

with regard to the above, what do you think about this advert on Ebay :- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-BOSCH-...item232462d528 The ad. clearly states it is a genuine Bosch item and at the end makes reference to Rover. Pete.
