Default Windows XP Startup

Having installed a few more bits of software, the Windows XP Pro machine has just decided to change the way it starts up.

1. Originally it just booted up and went straight to the desktop.

2. Now during boot up it opens a window which contains an icon with my name on it. I have to click the icon to get XP to continue to the desktop.

Is there a any way of reverting to number 1 above?

Go to Control Panel, run the User Accounts applet. Click the "Change the way users log on or off" link. Uncheck the "Use the Welcome screen" checkbox, click the 'Apply Changes' button. Done.

HTH.

I've tried this and it gets rid of the Welcome screen alright - but now it uses the 'classic logon prompt' instead.

I want to go straight to the desktop without having to log on at all.

Can I stop XP asking for logon details?

Have you recently installed a new HP printer? Their installation programme creates a new user (can't remember the name) and this causes the logon screen to appear. Simple go to the control panel > users and delete it. Its not needed after the printer has been installed

(No HP printer is installed - my printer is a Samsung which doesn't create a new user).

For some XP updates you have a user account created called ASP.NET.

Go to control panel and User Accounts and delete this account but keep the files. Once deleted, everything willl be back to normal

There is one called ASP.NET - what is it? And who gave it permission to set up its own account?

Must be that damned Gates bloke again
