Default Is the 75 susceptible to tyre noise?

Hi, When I bought my car it had wanli tyres fitted and they gave off a loud howling noise .Having changed the front tyres to vredesteins I noticed the howling noise reduced slightly. There are still wanlis on the back. The noise is still there but slightly quieter.
I have recently bought a saab 9-3 2001 as a 2nd car and there is hardly any tyre noise and the tyres are manufactured by an unknown cheap brand.
Also I recently drove a merc c180 coupe 2005 and hyundai accent 2008 and neither gave off much tyre noise.
Neither of these cars have wanlis fitted. Is it the tyres that are causing the noise or does the 75 exaggerate the tyre noise?

If a 'budget' branded tyre is fitted you will in most cases get some tyre noise, the noise will depend on the tyre and varies from make to make. In the end you get what you pay for. I would maybe check that the wheel bearings are ok as this can be a similar noise.

Some makes of tyres do exaggerate the Noise more
Mainly the cheap ones.

I've found the 75 is very susceptible to the type of tyres and the quality of the road covering.

For some reason the softer compounds offer less noise and I believe this is the wrong way around compared to other cars.

This is certainly the case with the Toyo Proxes T1R. They grip like fury and on a smooth tarmac, silent running.

Agree, can't wait for mine to wear down, they seem to be lasting forever though

Over time there have been a few threads regarding tyre noise on the 75. The vehicle was developed with Continental tyres which were found to have the best all round package of noise, grip and wear. Budget brands tend to be a bit variable on all three fronts. I've tried Goodyears and Pirelli and found these to be on a par with the EcoContact which were fitted from the factory. I've also had budget tyres, one of which buckled and another fooled me into thinking a wheel bearing was shot. This is not to say however that all budget tyres are inferior, but that it pays to looking round first and hunting through the forums for some very good advice.

I had Hankoks on my Honda Accord, and I also have them on my ZX, they are not the hardest wearing tyre, or the cheapest at £40+ each but they grip well and I get very little noise from them except on concrete.

The 75 also makes a lot of road noise on concrete, but the tyres are almost new so I will have to live with it for a while.
