Fan problems
How can i tell if my fan is packing up? A couple of weeks ago I noticed a strange noise/rattle that was keeping time with the engine. Last night I went off to tesco and the noise has got louder and the fan seems to be working very hard/fast. It was a cold night and I only went a total of 5 miles but, the fan was very audible, even with the heating etc switched off in the car and increases in speed if |I rev the engine a little. The car did NOT overheat or anything, the temp reading was normal as always.
Does this sound fan related? Many thanks for any advice you can give |

The fan is electric so engine speed is not relevant or at least the noise won't rise and fall in time with the engine.
I am wondering if you have a drive belt that is delaminating. I think you need to lift the bonnet and see where the noise is coming from Andy |

I was thinking more along the lines of the one for the alternator or the waterpump.
I don't think cambelts give much notice. You'll know when the cam belt fails though. The pistons and valves have a party and Christmas is cancelled! Andy |
