Default Diagnose fuel problems

Ok folks i did post a thread not too long ago regarding an issue i seem to be having which can involve car cutting out. I suspect a fuel prob as car also seems to hesitate at times during acceleration. I have lifted the rear seat today to try and hear the fuel pump but only pump i can audidably hear is the one under the bonnet which can be heard even with bonnet shut. I cant hear anything from in the tank but would i be able to anyway im not sure how the fuel systems work for priming on the 75.

Thanks

A very noisy UBP is typically an indication that the ITP has failed. The ITP can/should be heard buzzing for a short time when you put an ear to the tank filler hole. Get an assistant to turn on the ignition. If you also experience the quarter tank syndrome, then that's a pretty good sign of ITP failure. There should be no priming necessary.

If you're interested in how it all works, this might be worth a look: (Scroll down to Post 4) https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s....php?p=2529527

Pull the plug off the UBP, and with key to position II listen through the open fuel filler and if you can hear a feint buzzing noise then your ITP is working.

I know you can run your tank down to the bottom of the reserve level but that doesn't prove your ITP is actually running.

I could modify a car to do that with a failed ITP, and someone else may have done it to your car.

just as a quick update on this. i managed to get hold of a cheap second hand pump unit to save the hassle of changing just the pump. took old pump out and its covered in black gunk, some of which still seems to be in the tank. cleared out as much as i could and tried plugging the old pump in outside the tank and confirmed it was completely dead. got the new pump fitted and connected and its working fine now so thats one problem fixed, still got slight hesitation at points but nowhere near as bad and i suspect it may be down to maf which i have plugged back in as a test

Worth cleaning the tank out fully and replacing the fuel filter.

Does the gunk look organic? If so could be a case of 'diesel bug'.

Or possibly someone pouring a dose of old lube oil in to disguise red diesel use in the past

I'm going to give Steve a call tomorrow to arrange a ride across to see what's what though
