Default What is this for ?

Does anybody know what this is for, thats the bit just forward of the nut with the hole facing upwards and which can be found in both sides of the boot

The question has been asked before and cropped up yet again at the recent POL meet and I have never found the answer

Rob...do you think it could have been for a spring for the boot, instead of the hydrolic arms that are fitted now...just a thought mate.

This may sound silly but is it the mounting point for the brackets that take the holder for the load cover on the tourer?? I don't know enough about the production line - but possibly one of those things it's cheaper to leave in the line, than take out of it?? If you understand what I mean.

I see a rubber mount on the lid that lines up - maybe to stop the boot moving around and scuffing the black window trim?

It doesn't align up with the rubber so that rules it out.

There is a corresponding hole on the top of the hinge, just out of view on the photo and it does look as if it were for a spring retainer. Possibly ruled out in favour of struts.

thats a good guess and one already considered but when you shut the boot that rubber mount does not line up with the mysterious part, take a look on your own, the rubber mount sits higher and further forward with the boot lid closed

Rob,looking at the vertical arm,it has 2 notches on either side, perhaps for a spring or something to fit to,& then to the hole on the bracket That arm would lie flat against the bottom bracket when closed
