Default fuel economy readings??????

I am sure I will get some abuse for this, so here goes

on a resent full tank fill up,
on the dash reading 5.0 I am using on average 6.2l of diesel per 100 km.
on dash reading 5.1 it will give me a range of 858km.

on the normal odometer reading I am showing I have done 78.9 miles

does this mean i'm getting upward of 45+ to the gallon

does this make sense
I am sure I will be put in my place by more knowledgeable people

The long (but hopefully correct) way of working it out is this:

1. Convert litres to gallons. 6.2 x 100 ÷ 568 ÷ 8 = 1.6344
2. Convert km to miles. 100km = 62.14 miles
3. 62.13 miles per 1.6344 gallons = 38mpg.

Mind you, I can’t count…

lol you said it.........

6.2 litres is 1.366 gallons not 1.6344
and that then works out at about 45-46 mpg.....

I am reluctant to comment on these MPG threads as so many claims get ridiculed. I have recently been on a holiday to Scotland and my cdt, brim to brim covered 630 miles and consumed 54 litres of fuel, I think that gives approx 54 mpg, My car is maintained by Jules at Colwyn Bay and has been an absolute delight during the 18 months that I have owned it.

Actually that wasn't counting for once - it was bad typing! I typed 1.3644 as 1.6344.

Glad you've broken the ice. I'm obsessed with mpg rather than mph, always have been. 10 miles per litre is the minimum I expect and has been for 20 years.
Latest mixed driving brim to brim came out at 49.5 mpg. (diesel Tourer)

Multiply litres by .22 will give gallons
Bit easier

Hello Hogweed,

Are you sure you need all those numbers behind the decimal point????

HM Customs and Excise use 1 Imperial Gallon equals 4.54609litres. So much easier.
