There's no polish left on the car, it's fine to clay it without washing unless it has gotten dirty

Personally, I would wash it, even if it's just a hose down and not dried, to reduce the contaminants the clay will have to remove.

Hi,
i'd give it at least rinse off. You want all the dust etc. off before you clay otherwise you'll be "grinding" the dust into the paintwork as you clay. Many clays can be used with a diluted shampoo mix which aids/lubricates their action. Have you done the "plastic bag" test? Get a cheapo bag - the sort of thing you put fruit/veg in from the supermarket is fine. Put you hand in and pull it tight across your fingers. Gently feel across the surface (after washing/rinsing so no dust). If you can feel a "gritty" surface it needs claying (again); if not, it doesn't. Hope this helps. Good luck. Andy PS If you want the bells and whistles guides have a look at: http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/. You'll find me on there quite a bit |

Done bonnet and boot 2nd time today, although pleased with yesterdays result, more dirt picked up again. May do it 3rd or 4th time if it stops raining.
Nothing better to do,retirement is so BORING.

For the clay bar to be fully effective i'd remove everything thats on the paint.
Before clay bar, I would use a tar & glue remover. |
