Default Track rod ends.

I was stood in the local motor factors this morning when the mechanic from the nearby garage came in and asked for a nearside track rod end for a Rover 75. The lad behind the counter said that he only had one for the offside and it wouldn't fit, the mechanic told him that it would fit if you knew how to do it. Can anybody shed some light on this. Just curious!

My best guess, without looking at one, would be that the balljoint can be pressed out and reinserted the other way up.

Not possible without wrecking the part. Track rod ends are handed so not interchangeable. A bodger might drill through the steering arm taper so the ball joint pin could be inserted from the other side. I can't imagine anybody being that stupid though.
