Tourer Light Fixings/Plugs
I have a problem with one of my new tourer's taillights. Both of the plugs located in the rear panel, the ones that are used for the two fixing/securing screws, have the screws rusted in and the screws and plugs both turn together--if you know what I mean.
I suspect that this is a common problem? Anyone any suggestions for suitable fixings once I extract the screws? Cheers, Dave |

Google 'captive nut' that will bring up suitable fixings and the insertion tool.

If you do get the screw out you can re-tighten the inserts into the bodywork by putting a long screw through it and winding a nut down the screw onto the insert to squeeze it tight again, whilst gripping the screw to stop it from turning.
Worth putting copperslip/ grease/ even loctite onto the screw when refitting. Mine were a real pain. Tried just about every tool I own to grip the edge of the insert enough to slacken off the screw. Loads of WD40 and wait a number of weeks for it to slowly penetrate did it in the end. Heard of people drilling a hole adjacent to the insert to grip it from the back and put a grommet in the hole afterwards. -a |
