So starting from just over £15,000 then, similar to the UK.

As the car starts from £12,500 in China, I doubt whether it costs more than £6,000 at the factory gates, so even allowing for transportation to the UK, I doubt whether they cost MG Motors UK more than £7,000 to import!

So why have such a greedy Mark-up on them?

The Dealers don't have a huge margin in them (I believe it's 10%) so why not start the range from £9,995 (for a base model), get some cars on the road and then build from there?

As the 1st "11" plate cars are struggling in the Market place, they are simply over-priced in a crowded Market place and the registration numbers would back this up!

I've never been able to understand Manufacturers/Importers when they're cars are not selling, why they don't reduce prices?

They will of course say "to protect residual values" well to that I would say that as year old cars are struggling to make 50% of their new price, "What residuals?"

Great article. We're all really interested in Oz to see them.
Are the NZ cars actually China assembled UK specs or China specfications, as there's quite a difference in the car from what I've heard, and seen at Longbrdge last year.

I believe they're UK spec, but definitely China built. I had a good look at one last week. Well assembled and plently of room. I'll take one for a test drive sometime. I was disappointed with the dash and instruments though. Very toy like. Just a personal view of course, but overall a nice car. We don't have the diesel version here yet, although in NZ diesel is far less popular than in Europe.
