Microdrive of CompactFlash?
Just out of interest really.
Any body use a digital camera that supports CF? If so, what do you prefer and why? Microdrive or CF?

I use CF, and have never used microdrive. They used to be too expensive, and now the price of CF has dropped, why would I use something with moving parts that could go wrong.
So I prefer CF but not based on experience. |

Yeah it's true. Anything mechanical ultimately fails at some point.
I've never used CF, just bought a 4gb microdrive for £35 new. It was an end of line sale. Any idea what the writing speed is on CF?

Yes, CF should be more shock resistant. So I would go for CF, too.
But even these won't last for ever, because writing cycles on the chips are limited (depends on quality). It can be anything between 1.5 and 40 MB/s. So you should check the indicated speed while comparing prices. And of course it depends on the interface of the gadget, too. This may be the limiting factor.

Been tempted by a Microdrive for my PDA, the though of carrying 4GB worth of movies/tv shows around sounded great.
That said, 2GB SD cards are now soooo cheap and have very little effect on battery life compared to a MD. Amazing technology though, a 4GB hard drive in a 1" square |
