Default What make is the radio module?

I have been having problems with my radio not switching from AM to FM in my 2002 75 Connoisseur (as you may have noticed in previous threads).

I sent it to the shop and they determined that the fault was in the radio module. The module was sent to Alpine in Sydney or Melbourne for repair. Alpine responded by saying that the module was not an Alpine unit, but a Phillips unit made in South Africa.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Can you identify which unit you have by either posting a pic of it or looking through this datasheet: http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/index.php?thepage=ice

By knowing exactly which headunit you have we can tell you who made it. If it's one of the highline systems then the radio tuner is a BMW-sourced unit but I'm unsure who manufactured them for BMW.

There seemed to be a Couple of Makers on this depending whether Rover Sourced one BM24 or BM54.
Some of these have Becker Written on Them, Rover Normally Siemens.

Hi Simon and JDC - thanks for the reply - I have the Hi-Line head unit. Unfortunately I can't get a photo as its at the shop.

What company would you take a faulty unit to in the UK?

Regards

Dean

Hello Dean

I think I'm right in saying that most original equipment fitted is not usually repaired - warranty claims were just replaced.

Having trouble myself with a BMW unit that I bought to replace the original Rover one, I have not been able to find anyone to repair it until just. They want £100 to do so - not really economic.

I can confirm what has been stated above, you can replace the Rover unit with a BMW BM24 unit. The connections are the same so it just slots in to replace the Rover one.

However, be careful as there are 2 versions - business (with the same features as the Rover unit) or professional ( a better unit with dual tuner for TMC traffic messages whilst listening to any radio station) and also a drop down list of receivable radio stations.

The Rover unit that I have removed from my late 2002 75 is made by SiemensVDO in Germany and shows RG (I assume Rover Group) part no. XQC 100440.

I suspect that the cost of repairing your unit will be as much as buying a secondhand working unit. On e-bay at the moment BM24 business units are £200 and professional about £300.

Regards

Paul

The trouble is the retail Prices of these Units are Horrendous so a repair of £150 is quite Normal,
A Backlight Repair on a 16:9 Head Unit Was £210!
So may well be better off looking at S/H or refurbished and some are even New!

Paul & JDC

Thanks for your reply - I assume that the module is now out of warranty, unless the warranty extends beyond the new car warranty - I don't know.

I guess the best thing is to see what the repair costs are and then make a decision on what to do.

Thanks for your help

Regards

Dean

Will check to see if you need a Different Radio Unit for Australia.
