Angry Having just rinsed off a bit of Iceland...

... from my car for the 2nd time this week. Does anyone know if this dust is any more harmful to paintwork that normal dust/pollen?

If its Volcanic Dust then its very sharp bits of rock a bit like a Pummice stone (try rubbing that over your bonnet )

All i am doing at the moment is Snowfoaming the car and then giving it a once over with the pressure washer , i will wait until it dies down a bit until i use a washmitt so not to touch the surface too much

We havent got too much black dust down here at the moment but lots of sandy dust / pollen , just hope it doesnt rain for a week or so to pull down the ash from the sky

Steve

According to someone being interviewed on South Today the other evening the dust is no more damaging than the usual dust which covers our cars.

The dust is really damaging on paintwork for aircraft.
It's like being sandblasted.
However at a maximum of 70 mph you should be ok

It is far more abrasive then the usual "muck"...some kind sole thought they'd wipe the bonnet of my wife's Polo (Black) and the mark looks like someone has attacked it with a bit of 600 grade paper.
