My V6 Tourer failed MOT today based on Emissions problem. Garage says it keeps miss-firing on cylinder 6. This is a great car , 120K and has served me well from new. My aim is to make it last a lot longer but would appreciate anyone's rough idea on what the cost of correction might be? To be honest , the engine warning light has been on / off at various times for last few K miles and I had suspected a the Lambda Sensor - but they say this is not the problem. ( I'm not so sure!). Anyones observations welcome. Garage should soon give me an estimate for sorting this out.

A replacement coil pack from DMGRS is approx £12, failing that a full set of spark plugs never go a miss. A session on T4 diagnostics would cost approx £40 from a competent dealer would take the guesswork out.

Agreed. Start by taking the plug out and see if it's just sooty or oily. Replace the plug and coil/lead. Start simple and eliminate step by step.

New spark plug and coil pack, then throw a bottle of redex in the tank and drive it like you stole it for a while...
