Key Fobs stopped working
Today, neither of my keys would open central locking system of car.
I manage to manually open the car in the door lock with help of AA and the car turned her over fine, so not a battery issue. All doors open and close with key in keylock. All the door's open and close via the centre consol button. The AA advised I may need the keys reprogramming, however I don't know how to do this, but I believe it involves knowledge of the key bar code reader. Where can I find this? I am the second owner of the car and have had ownership since 2007 but, I'm unsure in what document this info would appear? Last edited by buzz887; 31st March 2024 at 22:03.. You should still be able to open the driver's door by inserting the key blade into the door lock and turning it, as this is a purely mechanical operation.

You said the engine turned over fine, this will happen if the transponder is not present.
Did the engine start?. If both keys have stopped working at the same time, the problem must be the central locking receiver module.

Is the little red light on both keys flashing when the unlock/lock button is pressed? If not, try replacing the key battery. Although it seems unlikely that both keys have died at the same time.
Have you tried re-synchronising the keys? If all that fails, do you have TOAF diagnostic software? You could scan the BCU (Body Control Unit) and see which keys are registered and campare to the labels stuck to the circuit boards within the the key fobs.

Are you sure? I might be mistaken, but I thought the immobiliser worked by inhibiting the starter motor. Therefore, if the transponder chip was missing, the engine wouldn't turn over and an engine immobiliser error message/light would be displayed.

Ignore that bit Matt, but I was thinking of something else
Definitely the receiver module though. Hard to believe the AA failed to diagnose it, when all keys stop working at the same time, it should be a no brainer to any breakdown engineer.

AA mechanic didn't use a scanner either. Worst though I have warranty cover and AA mechanic says keyfobs not covered, I'm checking this out tomorrow. Last edited by buzz887; 1st April 2024 at 03:25.. |

Yes, you are right, if the transponder is missing the car won't turn over.
