multiple warning lights.
Hi everyone in need of help my rover 75 2.5 v6 auto 1999 does not want to drive far. initially took the car out with low oil in gearbox(so i found out later when i dropped 2ltrs out and put 4ltrs back in.) ep warning light came on after 10 mls had to be recovered. So gearbox fluid changed put n409 in, checked level, ok. set off for mot garage 1mile away, stopped 3 times due to loss of drive, turn engine off wait a minute, start back up drive a bit further do same procedure until at destination no warning lights no EP for gearbox. This was on wednesday, just collected car same problem coming home but with multiple lights coming on and off, airbag light, handbrake, abs and EP light if i tried to drive it normal, had it plugged in before leaving garage no codes at all. could a poor battery or a loose connection be causing these issues, this is what is stopping me from attending on sunday, your help is much appreciated thanks steve.

Automatic gearbox problem

How did you check the level? Loss of drive is usually due to low fluid level. Simon

Good morning, update, checked plenums bone dry and clear, no multiple warning lights except abs light comes and goes as it pleases not too worried about that. I got the car in January knowing there was an issue with the gear box, when i dropped the oil i got about 2ltrs out from the drain plug did not attempt to get it out of the torque converter, put just over 4ltrs in got the car as level as possible took level plug out with engine running, dribbled a little bit, put plug back in when stopped dribbling. Took car out this morning felt it change up into 2nd then lost drive as i think it would have gone into 3rd travelled about 100mtrs, no warning light. whats the chances of the torque converter not having enough oil in it when i put the 4 ltrs in.

Thanks for your reply Steve.
Here is the fluid level checking procedure published by MG Rover in Technical Bulletin TB0080 issue 1 and summarised by me.

To confirm the fluid temperature readings, with your multimeter selected to a resistance range of 2kΩ or above, separate connector C0243 (tricky, twist to release) and between male terminals 7 & 8 (refer to diagram or tiny numbers on connector) you should see these reducing readings: 35˚C = 1.7 kΩ 40˚C = 1.16 kΩ 45˚C = 1.0 kΩ Good luck! Simon
