NSF wheel- difficult to spin
Heard a bit of metallic grouching from the front, of the auto when driving, 3 separate times this week, but it only lasted for a second or two.
There were no other untoward noises in between occurrences. Up on the lift, the wheel was very difficult to spin by hand (in neutral) so removed the caliper and pads. It didn’t change- ie still very difficult to spin. I was struggling to turn it any more than a quarter of a turn. The OSF turns ok, with a small bit of resistance. Im thinking it must be the wheel bearing, but was wondering if there is anything that could be amiss at the gearbox end?🤔 Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The wheel bearing seems the most likely.--Anything wrong in the box itself would probably be felt at both front wheels.

Yep I'd go with the wheel bearing - have had one go like that before. If you want to make certain then remove the driveshaft and have another feel.

Good to know, as any bearing failure I’ve had before resulted in a drone, which either got louder or disappeared going round corners, and I can’t recall it causing so much resistance. 👍 I’ll try removing the driveshaft and take it from there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I could be wrong Jon but I think Mike was suggesting just separating the hub from the outer end of the driveshaft in order to check the bearing independently in which case there wouldn't be any oil loss to worry about.

Yes Simon, that’s the way I took it from Mike and how the mechanic done it. Anyway….he told me this morning that the bearing was totally siezed, so I guess that’s the problem identified! New one now ordered locally. Thanks all for your input. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
