Default v8 number 3?

I've just come across this on ebay, the listing leaves a lot to be desired considering this is meant to be a prototype and such an early model.

Under the Vehicle details section it's listed as having 341bhp..

Surprised you haven't seen it before, as been for sale at that ridiculous price for about a year!

I did read elsewhere that the seller would take as little as £5,500 for it, to move it on, so why he doesn't reduce the price is beyond me!

If it's as nice as described, I would have thought that it was worth around £6,600!

Its been for sale for well over a year at that crazy price, its also on his own website for £6500 and has been forseveral months, before i bought my current 260 i did speak to them but it did not inspire me with confidence as he said there was still quite a lot to do to prepare fore sale,as it had been for sale for months prior to that i did not bother to pursue.

Well to be honest I don't look at v8 models all too often as it's simply not something I can afford with saving for a house and commuting 40 odd miles a day. I just like to check in every so often.

As said, this car has been for sale for quite a while & because it's a prototype/development car, it would appear that there have been issues with it.

I know the previous owner still had it in 2011 & it was being maintained by Cleevewood Garage but it had broken down due to the EWS module being full of water !

Up until that point, no one could get a T4 to communicate with it & I'm not sure how it panned out from there but it obviously got fixed.

As far as I recall, it got sent elsewhere to be repaired as Cleevewood couldn't sort it (Austin Garages I think)

Because of the differences from a standard 260, I wouldn't touch it personally.

It is well overpriced even with the low mileage & low VIN number but then again, Cleevewood are known for overpricing in this neck of the woods !!

Charm of owning a prototype car comes with a price.
I believe the subframe is now sorted, the engine may very well have the stated BHP.
T4 communication is hit and miss with some V8's at the best of times.

As for the price, it will fetch what it will fetch once sold. Maybe a case of finding the right buyer.

T4 hates V8's

As for prototype ones, mine is no worse than the later cars! They all have issues!!

So it's real then. I thought it was some conman trying to sell a dodgy car due to the serious lack of information in the ad.

#003 is a real car. Prototype 260 with its charms and problems.
Most are sorted I believe.

Wouldn't buy it as a daily runner but potentially a nice car to have

There's no doubt 003 is a rare car and if it does pique your interest, as it did mine, make sure you look at it with your eyes open. I recently made some fairly extensive enquiries about 003, if you fancy it be prepared to take it on as a project. Its past problems are well known over on the 260s and apparently most have been rectified but it is believed to have ongoing electrical problems, the exact nature of which I could not ascertain but they are due to it being a prototype. The cooling and electrical systems are not the same as the production models, I did not relish the thought of trying to rectify electrical problems on a car where there's every chance a circuit diagram from a manual/disc is of no use!

003 was owned by a member of the 260s during 2013, he sold it, not sure exactly when but the car dropped off the radar until it turned up at Cleevewood. A member went along to Cleevewood one evening and had a look at it for me, took some pics and from what he told me I think it had a hard life after being sold. As it stands just now the discs are heavily rusted so it hasn't moved for some time, probably since the ad photos were taken. The needle on the fuel gauge was lying at the bottom of the IPK under the glass! It was either left unlocked or the battery was removed/dead, no alarm light flashing.

Possibly the most damning thing is the garage has never responded to my enquiry about the car.
