Default auto with cruise question

At present I drive a manual with cruise. I use the cruise an awful lot, even going through 30mph and 40mph zones, I can go through 40mph in top gear. I really like cruise!
I tried an automatic the other day, as I fancy getting one, and I had less control over the gear change, progress seemed a bit jerky,
Can anyone please tell me at what speeds the automatic changes gear from 1 - 5.
I also use the cruise as an accelerater, once I hit around 40mph and go into cruise I accelerate up to whatever speed I want.
When I tried this in an auto, the car changed gear (I think from 4 - 5), it seemed a bit 'jerky' compared to the manual
I think that perhaps auto with cruise does not suit my style.
How do members find driving auto with cruise? Do you literally use it just to drive on the motorway over about 50 mph ?

Just put a new clutch in your car

An auto is for old men, and won't be as economical as your tourer

I have an auto, and like you, I use cruise a lot. I find it helps me to keep to the speed limit in 30, 40, 50mph zones, as well as being more comfortable on motorways. I also use cruise to accelerate and to resume my previous speed after braking. All of this works well most of the time. However, I find that hills at relatively low speeds seem to confuse the cruise control; the gearbox can't seem to decide what ratio to select and there is a certain amount of surging. Having said all this, I think I'm overdue for an ATF change, which might have a positive effect on some of these things. Overall, I love both auto and cruise control and wouldn't be without either.

Now now less of the old. The main reason I've got an auto is that I drive a manual HGV wagon all day. so just love the comfort and smooth driving on my commute home wich is 45mins some days.
Ho and I'm only 46 lol

That's interesting. What do you do at roundabouts when you have to give way?

Steve lives at least 20 miles from a roundabout, and remember Steve, the automatic is £80 a year more to tax
