![]() Today I fitted the boot mounted luggage rack, not for the faint hearted.
I recently purchased this from forum member Rufas. - thank you what a pleasure to deal with! I decided to for it to S544 AOX. As technically she can’t have a set of roof bars fitted. It takes some nerve drilling 4 large holes in the boot lid of your nice prototype that you restored…. I know it’s not to a lot of people’s taste as I’ve had some hate already. So please if you don’t like it keep it to yourself please. Thanks Josh. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

![]() I don’t think I’ve ever seen one.
I wonder how many they sold. |

![]() I've always liked the idea of the boot rack, but for a long time thought that they maybe existed only in the early brochures. That was until I found an advert for one, and bought it.
Mine is still in it's original packaging, and my intention was to buy a second boot lid for it. Once I'm back in harness, as far as my garage and workshop are concerned, this will happen. As to how many sold, I'd also be interested; of note, I realised that my rack (and yours) is slightly different to the brochure image, in that on ours the rack proper fits directly to the bars - making it lower. Possible market feedback about rear view mirror obstruction? The brochure version sold for circa £300, whilst the second version was a more reasonable £60 odd. Regards Mike

![]() The only think now looking it I’ve noticed different is the clamps for the rack is in a different position… the date of mine was stamped for the quality control was November 1999 so I would have thought this one is pretty early.this one was new unopened.

![]() Talking of fitting it the other way round, has triggered my memory.
There were (on this forum?) a year or two back some photos of a rack fitted such that the shorter lid bar was nearest to the rear screen. To my mind, that did look wrong, and of course the holes were spaced accordingly. The rack itself, I think, can be fitted with the raised lip either fore or aft; as required for any particular load. i.e. as per the instructions it certainly can, but I think that's then also reversible, after the initial assembly. Mike

![]() If you follow the instructions I’m not sure how that would happen…but I was told about someone doing that a few years ago..

The first bootlid that I bought was in really good condition. I then found another one that had already had holes drilled in it. I still haven’t got round to fitting it, though 😀 |

![]() Similarly, and now that we have moved on to other boot racks, I have a second boot lid for my MG-B; in the right colour, but has the later telescopic opening prop arm bracket.
Unfortunately I never did buy a factory rack, at the time. Pattern ones are now quite a lot of brown drinking vouchers. Mike

![]() I think it looks nice - adds a certain 'je ne sais quoi' to the vehicle. Rather fancy one myself, was going to buy one but our BRG got in first! Takes an expert to fit it though by the looks of it. So if anyone has another one? Plus the chrome studs look nice when it isnt on the car.
