![]() Hi I'm new. Had my 52 plate Conni CDT from new. Recently the Aircon Compressor started making a loud growling noise. But it worked fine. On a service and serpent belt change I paid to have the aircon regassed in case it was low on lubricant oil.
Colder aircon but still growling and getting louder so I bought a brand new Diesel aircon compessor from SMC. The right compressor for the M47 engine. Had that fitted and then regassed (pretty good garage) but then the compressor kept clicking in and out and not much coldness. Regassing made no difference. It was suggested that the new Compressor might be faulty so I bought another FROM A DIFFERENT SUPPLIER. Same problem, clicks in and out, not getting cold. It was suggested by an Aircon expert that it might be the Trinary switch. Yep, you got it. Replaced that today. Still doesn't work. Symtoms are: The system seems to take a lot of pressure, though the garage have tried putting in a little as 200 and as high as 550. The high pressure pipe gets very very hot, too hot to hold even for a second. Next week they will put the old compressor back on but in the mean time, with no Aircon I wondered if anyone could hazard a guess what's gone wrong. To recap. Old one worked. But noisy. Regassed. Still noisy. New one fitted, clicks in and out, not cold. Second new one fitted, just the same. Replacement Tinary switch. Still doesn't work. New drive belt and serpant belt fitted. 50k service. Any suggestions (if you haven't dropped off ) appreciated. ![]() |

![]() OK thats the problem, the air con needs the fan to operate to cool the r134a, you will probably find that whilst you are moving the air con works.
Now, you need to establish which fan you have. If you look through the fan blades you should be able to see a silver resistor ( block type thing) at around the two oclock position. If you have one of these then you have a 2 speed fan ![]() If you cannot see one then you have a three speed one ![]() Two speed fans usually only require the resistor to be replaced, easy fix see jules a member on here for replacement resistor. Three speed fans may need to be replaced. sit down before you price a replacement fan.
